For UK and EU Students CertHE in Public Health with Foundation offers a strong foundation in health and social care knowledge and skills. This exciting new programme supports students to develop essential skills, explore contemporary health issues and understand the social factors that influence well-being. Students will develop key academic skills, such as critical thinking and research. They will form communication strategies in healthcare settings and understand the impact of lifestyle and environment on health. Students will learn about collaborative working in inter-professional teams and explore sociological perspectives on health and well-being. This programme is ideal for those aspiring to work in health and social care or individuals currently in the field seeking to enhance their knowledge and qualifications. Students will learn from highly experienced expert faculty teachers in a supportive learning environment. After completing this course, successful students can progress to one of our BSc (Hons) degree programmes in Public Health. The principal aims of the CertHE in Business Studies with Foundation are to: Level 0 Level 4 The programme will be delivered at London School of Commerce, an associate college of Canterbury Christ Church University. The London campus is centrally located and all the prime attractions in London are in close proximity to the campus. Campus buildings are located in the London Bridge area, within easy reach of British Rail and Underground stations. The Birmingham campus is also centrally located and easily accessible from each of Moor Street, New Street and Snow Hill stations. To be eligible for entry to the Foundation Year course applicants must satisfy the standard Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) entry requirements for admission as set out in the University General Regulations for the Conferment of Awards Policy. The approach to the selection of students for the Foundation Year is aligned with the strategic priorities of CCCU, growing our applications, improving conversion, building capacity and capability. This is consistent with the widening participation agenda for an “NHS workforce more representative of the communities it seeks to serve and where development and progression is based upon a person’s merit, ability and motivation and not their social background or the privilege, extent and effectiveness of their social networks” (Health Education England, 2014, p3). Overview Aims
Introduce students to the range of career opportunities available within Public Health, Allied Health, Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, fostering studentsʼ awareness of health and social care systems, structures, and specialities.
Recognise the interrelated nature of subjects across health and social care studies and to provide a foundation upon which knowledge and understanding can be built in preparation for future learning and employment.
Provide a supportive university environment where students can grow in confidence and develop the experience and skills that they need to successfully transition into Higher Education.
Provide a baseline learning experience which introduces students to the main functional areas of public health in the healthcare sector.
Provide a broad and coherent programme of integrated study of subjects which contribute to prepare students to advance at work.
Provide an entry route to the Level 5 of a BSc (Hons) degree programmes in Public Health for those students who successfully complete the Cert HE.
