For UK and EU Students CertHE in Business Studies with Foundation introduces students to the essentials of business and management, the context in which business organisations operate and their common aims and objectives. The course exposes students to work-related learning, the key ethical and legal responsibilities that businesses have and the global context impacting contemporary businesses. Students will begin to develop fundamental management skills and gain an understanding of essential business concepts such as environmental analysis and organisational behaviour. The CertHE in Business Studies with Foundation gives students a secure grounding in core business functions, develops their practical business management skills and leadership potential. It exposes students to the latest business and technical skills needed to lead and manage in todayʼs modern business environment. The CertHE in Business Studies with Foundation is a recognised stand-alone qualification, whilst also providing an entry route to degree-level study in business and management. The principal aims of the CertHE in Business Studies with Foundation are to: The programme will be delivered at London School of Commerce, an associate college of Canterbury Christ Church University. The London campus is centrally located and all the prime attractions in London are in close proximity to the campus. Campus buildings are located in the London Bridge area, within easy reach of British Rail and Underground stations. The Birmingham campus is also centrally located and easily accessible from each of Moor Street, New Street and Snow Hill stations. LSC welcomes applications from all those interested in furthering their education. If applicants do not meet the standard entry requirements but can demonstrate that their life/work skills would make them suitable for undergraduate study, they will be considered. Overview Aims
Provide a bridging and foundational learning experience which introduces students to the requirements of UK higher education.
Provide a foundation level programme which builds study skills for progression on to the undergraduate Certificate of Higher Education Business Studies programme.
Provide a sound knowledge base, in the business field, for progression on to the undergraduate Certificate of Higher Education Business Studies programme.
Students will have developed techniques for learning at a higher level and gained skills in building knowledge about business from a range of sources of information.
Students will have developed a grasp of key areas and foundational knowledge in the field of business. They will have engaged with contemporary issues and salient factors influencing business practice and operations in global 21st century business.
Successful students will have applied baseline theoretical concepts and models found within the business field, in the classroom, and will be able to articulate, at an appropriate level, how these are applied in the real world, through engagement with case studies.
Students will have developed, through problem solving of real and hypothetical business problems, basic skills in research and enquiry and a rudimentary ability to evaluate sources and information for validity and reliability.
Successful students will be able to consider business problems and compare/order possible solutions, assessing and contrasting relative strengths and weaknesses.
In keeping with the ethos of the programme, successful students will have undertaken real business activities such as working in a team to solve problems and create solutions together, in the process building business behaviours and skills such as leadership and delegation.
Students will have engaged in a range of activities that have developed their communication skills. This includes academic writing skills through formative and summative assessment and classroom-based activities as well as verbal communication skills through working in groups and presenting information.
Course Delivery
Requirements
Have 5 passes at GCSE or NARIC confirmed equivalent. No formal proof of English required for UK nationals and qualifying EU applicants as defined by the Canterbury Christ Church University.
All applicants are assessed by LSC admission team via interview for listening, speaking and reading and for writing via a personal statement. Performance at CEFR Level B1 is required for students whose first language is not English. This includes those who are recently naturalised UK nationals. Admission to the course is subject to final approval by the Canterbury Christ Church University.

Ability to pass examinations, which will be considered on merit
An independent employment reference
An assurance that the applicant has a reasonable command of English at CEFR Level B2 for entry at Level 4 or above (B1 for Level 0) via an independent external examination.
