For UK and EU Students The BSc (Hons) Public Health & Business Management course places emphasis on both the theoretical understanding and applied knowledge of health and makes particular emphasis on the contribution of management and leadership within, and for health. The Faculty of Public Health (2018) make the case that management skills and leadership are required to build partnerships and coalitions for protecting, promoting, and improving health. Additionally, it is recognised that effective managers and leaders are required for the delivery of health and wellbeing services. Health and wellbeing in the UK are delivered through a variety of public and private organisations, alongside new and emerging unregulated markets. Graduates who are equipped with the skills and knowledge can pursue a range of existing and emerging employment opportunities, both within and beyond the health sector, and also be aware of the health and wellbeing within their own workforce. Student learning on this course route will be facilitated by providing them with cross-faculty learning opportunities. Public Health & Business Management students will be studying common modules alongside Public Health students at LSC and in the Faculty of Medicine, Health & Social Care. They will additionally be provided with focused subject knowledge approved via the Christ Church Business School, in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Social Sciences. This cross-faculty course allows students to develop the learning and application of relevant practices, theories, and conceptual ideas taken from health and business disciplines alongside social sciences and other health-related sciences. This will support studentsʼ deeper learning and understanding about how organisational management and leadership can complement and provide a framework for health, population health, lifestyle and health improvement, positive mental health and wellbeing. Please also note at LSC these modules will be taught separately from current business management modules. The BSc (Hons) Public Health & Business Management degree course aims to: The programme will be delivered at London School of Commerce, an associate college of Canterbury Christ Church University. The London campus is centrally located and all the prime attractions in London are in close proximity to the campus. Campus buildings are located in the London Bridge area, within easy reach of British Rail and Underground stations. To be eligible for entry to the Level 5 top-up, applicants must be in possession of 120 appropriate credits at Level 4, e.g. Cert HE Public Health. External applicants must also satisfy the standard Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) entry requirements for admission as set out in the University General Regulations for the Conferment of Awards Policy. LSC welcomes applications from all those interested in furthering their education. If applicants do not meet the standard entry requirements but can demonstrate that their life/work skills would make them suitable for undergraduate study, they will be considered. Overview Aims
Place an emphasis on both the theoretical understanding and applied knowledge of health, with a particular emphasis on the contribution of management and leadership within and for health.
Enable students’ critical application of relevant practices, theories, and conceptual ideas taken from health and business disciplines alongside social sciences and other health-related sciences supporting contemporary wider health practice.
Support student’s development of critical understanding about how organisational management and leadership can complement and provide a framework for health, population health, lifestyle and health improvement, positive mental health, and wellbeing.
Support student’s development of critical understanding of underpinning knowledge for health, wellbeing and lifestyle and health improvement, and illness prevention.
Equip students with skills to be able to critically analyse contemporary complex public health issues at the forefront of public health and mental well-being and provide a foundation from which to move beyond problem-solving into an exploration of possibilities for the enhancement of health and well-being.
Develop students’ understanding, utilisation and critique of research methods and techniques to generate knowledge relevant to holistic health and wellbeing.
Provide opportunities for students to gain work-related experiences, which will support the equipping of graduates with a set of skills relevant to both their prospective employers across the public, commercial, voluntary, and charitable sectors, and the changing health marketplace, which requires cost-effective, innovative, and interdisciplinary working, whilst acknowledging the complexity of future challenges.
Develop a critical understanding of legal, moral, and ethical responsibility and accountability when working as a leader in the domain of health.
Produce graduates who are intellectually curious, skilled, and ethically engaged with the world and its future, and as such will be adaptable, digitally literate, effective communicators, informed, innovative, professional, and self-aware.
Support student’s development of skills linked to literacy, numeracy with attention to data handling and interpretation in a culturally and socially sensitive learning environment, which is receptive to the complex needs of individual students.
