The Certificate of Higher Education Health and Social Care with Foundation Year (CertHE H&SCFY) is a higher education course for any student looking for a targeted level 4 award, with entry at level 3. The course is designed for: The course will provide students with a broad introduction to the health and social care sector (H&SCS) and its contemporary practices, examining how the rapid advances in technology within the 4th industrial revolution are impacting the health and social care sector. It also explores how the UK H&SCS is responding to the salient global social and environmental priorities and goals, in particular, for: diversity and inclusion, sustainability and achieving net zero. Students will develop their core academic study skills whilst also gaining a good understanding of the H&SCS. The course is underpinned by employability, with a focus on the application of theory and knowledge to practical application, equipping students with the skills they need for work in the 21st century. It will also successfully equip students who wish to progress into further study at levels 5 and 6 to achieve a full Bachelor’s (honours) degree related to the H&SCS or to progress in employment e.g. promotion to a supervisory or management role or to seek a new position. The principal aims of the Certificate in Higher Education Health & Social Care with Foundation are to: Level 3 Level 4 The programme will be delivered at London School of Commerce, an associate college of the University of Suffolk. The London campus is centrally located and all the prime attractions in London are in close proximity to the campus. Campus buildings are located in the London Bridge area, within easy reach of British Rail and Underground stations. The Manchester campus is also centrally located and easily accessible from each of Piccadilly, Victoria and Oxford Road stations. Students for whom a long period of HE study on a traditional 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree does not meet their current work life situation, but who can commit to two years of study and gain the skills they need.
Those who want an experience of degree level study, but are unsure about whether to pursue a full Bachelor’s degree.
Aims
Provide a bridging and foundation learning experience which introduces students to the requirements of UK higher education
Provide a study skills and English language foundation level programme which prepares and facilitates entry to the undergraduate Cert HE Health & Social Care course
Provide a guaranteed entry route to the Cert HE Health & Social Care course for those students who successfully complete the programme.
Provide students with a broad introduction to the contemporary health and social care sector.
Develop an understanding of some of the different discourses and theories that influence health and social care such as the political, social and legal.
Equip students with key knowledge and skills which prepares them for work in the health and social care sector.
Develop students’ academic and employability skills, thus preparing them for higher study.
Course Delivery
Requirements
Have 5 passes at GCSE or NARIC confirmed equivalent. No formal proof of English required for UK nationals and qualifying EU applicants as defined by the University.
All applicants are assessed by the LSC admission team via interview for listening, speaking and reading and for writing via a personal statement. Performance at CEFR Level B1 is required for students whose first language is not English. This includes those who are recently naturalised UK nationals. Admission to the course is subject to final approval by the University.
