Overview

University-of-Suffolk

The CertHE Health and Social Care (H&SC) is a higher education course ideally placed for any student looking for a targeted level 4 award. The course is designed for:

Students who want to develop their knowledge of health and social care, and/or gain new skills to facilitate their own employment progression.

Students for whom a long period of HE study on a traditional 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree does not meet their current work life situation, but can commit to a year of study and gain the skills they need.

Those who want an experience of degree level study, but are unsure about whether to pursue a full Bachelor’s degree.

Level 4 Entry

Credit Value: 120 credits

Duration: 1 Year

The course will provide students with a broad introduction to the H&SC sector and its contemporary practices, examining how the rapid advances in technology within the 4th industrial revolution are impacting the sector. It also explores how the UK H&SC sector is responding to the salient global social and environmental priorities and goals, in particular for: diversity and inclusion, sustainability and achieving net zero, thus meeting the UoS 2020-30 strategy and vision objectives.

Students will develop their core academic study skills whilst also gaining a good understanding of the contemporary H&SC sector.

The course is underpinned by employability, with a focus on the application of theory and knowledge to practical application, equipping students with the skills they need for work in the 21st century. It will also successfully equip students who wish to progress into further study at levels 5 and 6 to achieve a full Bachelor’s (honours) degree related to the H&SC sector or to progress in employment e.g. promotion to a supervisory or management role or to seek a new position.
