Overview

CertHE in Business Studies introduces students to the essentials of business and management, the context in which business organisations operate and their common aims and objectives.

The course exposes students to work-related learning, the key ethical and legal responsibilities that businesses have and the global context impacting contemporary businesses.

Students will begin to develop fundamental management skills and gain an understanding of essential business concepts such as environmental analysis and organisational behaviour.

The CertHE in Business Studies gives students a secure grounding in core business functions, develops their practical business management skills and leadership potential. It exposes students to the latest business and technical skills needed to lead and manage in todayʼs modern business environment.

The CertHE in Business Studies is a recognised stand-alone qualification, whilst also  providing an entry route to degree-level study in business and management.

Level 4 Entry

Credit Value: 120 credits

Duration: 1 Year

Aims

The principal aims of the Certificate in Higher Education Business Studies are to:

Provide students with a broad introduction to business concepts and management.

Develop understanding of the different internal and external factors that business organisations negotiate.

Equip students with business knowledge and skills which prepares them for work.

Develop studentsʼ academic and employability skills, thus preparing them for higher study.

Course Delivery

The programme will be delivered at London School of Commerce, an associate college of Canterbury Christ Church University. The London campus is centrally located and all the prime attractions in London are in close proximity to the campus. Campus buildings are located in the London Bridge area, within easy reach of British Rail and Underground stations. The Birmingham campus is also centrally located and easily accessible from each of Moor Street, New Street and Snow Hill stations.

Requirements

To be admitted to the Cert HE Business Studies Programme (1 year) students must meet:

Standard entry tariff, i.e. 112 UCAS point for Cert HE leading to BA (Hons) Business Studies.

All applicants are assessed by LSC admission team via interview for listening, speaking and reading and for writing via a personal statement. Performance at CEFR Level B1 is required for students whose first language is not English. This includes those who are recently naturalised UK nationals. Admission to the course is subject to final approval by the Canterbury Christ Church University.

Non-standard Entry

LSC welcomes applications from all those interested in furthering their education. If applicants do not meet the standard entry requirements but can demonstrate that their life/work skills would make them suitable for undergraduate study, they will be considered.

The admissions procedure will include a careful scrutiny of application forms for evidence of:

Relevant work experience of a substantial nature and duration

Ability to pass examinations, which will be considered on merit

An independent employment reference

An assurance that the applicant has a reasonable command of English at CEFR Level B2 for entry at Level 4 or above (B1 for Level 0) via an independent external examination.

Separate University processes will then apply.
